Building Blocks Therapy has a duty of care to our staff members and other clients. This policy applies to clinic and community (e.g., home, school, kinder, childcare) sessions. We therefore aim to minimise cross contamination and the spread of infectious diseases at all times. Please refer to our ‘Infection Control Policy and Procedure’ for full details. 

We understand that at times your child will become sick and that this is out of your control However, it is imperative that families preserve a focus not only on the well-being of their own child but also upon the well-being of other children and staff at our clinic and therefore keep their child home if they are sick. 

Your child must be symptom free for 24 hours, without the use of medication. Therapy will not occur if your child exhibits any of the following symptoms. 

  • Fever 
  • Diarrhea 
  • Vomiting 
  • Body Rash with fever 
  • Sore throat with fever and swollen glands 
  • Severe coughing 
  • Eye discharge 
  • Upper respiratory illness 
  • Chicken pox (until all blisters have dried and formed scabs) 
  • Bacterial Infection (Strep Throat etc) 
  • Viral Infection 
  • Any parasitic Infection (Lice, Scabies, etc) 

In the event that your child is exhibiting any of the above symptoms we ask that you contact your therapist as soon as possible to reschedule your appointment or move your appointment to a Telehealth session. In the event we arrive for an appointment and find your child is exhibiting any of the above listed symptoms, we reserve the right to cancel the session (full session fee will apply).

Because we work so closely to your child, our concern is not only your child’s health, but also maintaining the health of our staff and other families. Thank you for adhering to this sick policy. 

WHAT TO DO IF YOUR CHILD IS SICK 

Please call your therapist directly (all therapist numbers can be found on our website contact us page by clinic on “View Staff Contact Details” (see image below). Alternatively, you can contact our clinic on 03 94040338.

Your therapist or our friendly reception staff will then help you reschedule your child’s therapy session or arrange for the session to occur via Telehealth. 

If you cancel 24 hours prior to your child’s therapy session a cancellation fee will not be applied. Any cancellations outside of this time period will incur the cancellation feel (‘Please refer to our full ‘Cancellation and Attendance Policy’) 

WHAT WILL HAPPEN IF I DON’T PAY THE CANCELLATION FEE?
If you chose not to pay your cancellation fee, your child’s future sessions will be cancelled, and your child’s regular session time will be offered to a family on the waiting list. 

Please Note: 

The Management Team at Building Blocks Therapy is required to notify the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) immediately if a child is suspected of having: 

  • Diphtheria 
  • Mumps 
  • Poliomyelitis 
  • Haemophilus influenzae Type b (Hib) 
  • Meningococcal disease 
  • Rubella (“German measles”) 
  • Measles 
  • Pertussis (“whooping cough”) 
  • Tetanus 
  • An outbreak of gastrointestinal or respiratory illness
